Oct 2024: Important Updates to SecurePass for Contractor Management App

October 17, 2024

We’re excited to announce a series of updates to the SecurePass for Contractors app, designed to enhance usability, improve tracking, and provide greater flexibility. These changes are based on feedback from our users and reflect our commitment to continuously improving the SecurePass experience.

Below, we’ll walk through each of the major updates in this release, including how these changes will benefit your daily workflows.

What’s New?

1. Shake Functionality Replaced with an Emergency Button

In the previous version of SecurePass, users needed to shake their device during sign-up to activate emergency mode. This has now been replaced with a more intuitive and user-friendly button on the main screen.

  • How it works:
    • To trigger an emergency, simply hold the emergency button for 5 seconds.
    • The button will turn green, indicating the emergency mode is activated.
    • The same action will be required to exit the emergency mode.

This change simplifies the process, ensuring quick activation of emergency mode when needed.

2. New Location List Screen for Geofence Sign-In

A new Location List Screen has been added to make geofence sign-in easier and more accurate.

  • How it works:
    • When using the geofence sign-in option, users will now see a list of locations to choose from.
    • After selecting a location, the app will confirm if you are within that area before proceeding with the sign-in process.

This feature ensures that you can easily select the correct location, especially in environments with multiple geofences.

3. QR Code Sign-In: Better Tracking

We’ve made an important update for users signing in via QR code—tracking is now only applied when the user enters emergency mode.

  • Important note:
    • If emergency mode is activated, tracking will remain active until the mode is turned off.

This update is designed to enhance user privacy while still ensuring tracking is enabled during emergency situations.

4. Enhanced Geofence Tracking with User Permissions

Geofence tracking behavior is enhanced with user permission preferences, providing more control over how and when users are tracked.

  • Permission options:
    • Always: The user is tracked even when the app is in the background within the geofence area.
    • While Using the App: The user is tracked only when the app is actively on-screen.
    • Once: The user is tracked for one session, and the app will request location permission again when reopened.
    • Don’t Allow: The user is not tracked at all.

This gives users the flexibility to choose their preferred level of control over their geolocation data.

5. Sign-Out Flexibility Within Geofence

Previously, users needed to be outside the geofence to sign out. Now, users can sign out while still inside the geofence, offering greater convenience.

  • Note: Users will not be able to sign out during an emergency event.

This update provides flexibility for users to manage their sign-ins and sign-outs more efficiently without needing to leave a geofence area.

6. Removal of the Geofence Notification Switch

We’ve removed the Get Geofence Notification switch from the app’s settings. In the new workflow, users will manually decide when to sign in, eliminating the need for automatic notifications.

This allows users more control over their actions, avoiding unnecessary prompts when entering or exiting geofence areas.

7. Admin Alert for Ignored Notifications

Admins will no longer receive alerts about users ignoring geofence sign-in prompts, as sign-ins are now a manual process initiated by users.
